Assisting a document solutions company to migrate to the latest Dynamics 365 solution.
In 2020 Microsoft announced the launch of Dynamics 365 Project Operations as a new, advanced solution for project management that would integrate with wider business activities such as sales and billing.
At the same time, Microsoft announced that the existing solution – Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation – would go end of life, requiring an eventual Dynamics 365 Project Operations migration to the new solution.
Recognising the need to change the existing Project Service Automation and identifying this as the right time for the business, a US-based document solutions company engaged Akita to migrate them to Dynamics 365 Project Operations ahead of Microsoft’s deadline.
Dynamics 365 Project Operations Migration
Working to a four-day timescale, we started by decommissioning the existing Project Service Automation setup and extracting any required data. Particular attention was given to managing dependencies to minimise impact on ongoing business operations during this time.
Once complete, we moved on to the Dynamics 365 Project Operations migration phase. Beginning with the creation of a new instance, we worked with the company to ensure that Dynamics 365 Project Operations was deployed, licensed and tailored to the company’s requirements.
We then progressed to data migration, working to make sure that data taken from Project Service Automation would fit the new application. This was achieved without issue.
The Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations migration was completed successfully, allowing for a seamless working transition from the old Dynamics solution to the new. Doing so ahead of Microsoft’s deadline has ensured that the company has got a head start with the new Dynamics 365 solution. It also means it won’t be impacted by Project Service Automation reaching the end of life.
