The time has come for the first of the twice-yearly updates for Microsoft business applications in 2023.
Below we highlight some of the features coming to the various Dynamics 365 and Power Platform applications:
Business Central updates
Business Central is Microsoft’s flagship ERP application, designed to support all areas of operations.
Updates in Wave 1 2023, therefore, focus on simplification of business management. Financials will be improving with greater intercompany capabilities and the new possibility for general ledger settlement. And the process for onboarding new customers will also be improved for a more streamlined approach.

Dynamics 365 Customer Experience
The Dynamics 365 customer experience applications – Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Commerce – are central to winning new business.
Microsoft state the latest round of updates revolve around three pillar concepts:
- Uniting customer data signals within platforms
- Connecting sales and marketing for increased wins
- Delivering real-time coaching (with the help of Viva Sales)

Wave 1 2023 for Dynamics 365 Field Service
The focus of updates to Dynamics 365 Field Service is further optimisation for service managers and expanding the functionality of mobile apps for field agents.
Features for managers will include enhanced search functionality, smarter asset hierarchy for complex support requirements, and improved work order management to ensure that work does not exceed defined set values.
Frontline field agents will now benefit from a more stable app experience, with faster load times as well as improved data synchronisation.
The Power Platform applications (Power Apps, Power Pages, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents and Power BI) are to benefit from an extensive range of updates – enough to merit an entire brochure.
While there are lots of good things going on, it’s predominantly improvements on the existing functionality, making things simpler and smarter to use (including the use of AI in the case of Power Virtual Agents).
In all, it’s another exciting round of improvements to Microsoft’s business applications, offering further enhancements to both existing functionality and the capability for interaction (and new working efficiencies) between applications.
